My mother
My mom was unequivocally the woman who made me who I am today. She immigrated to the United States from Taiwan with my dad and started a new life with so little. She exemplified strength, perseverance and dedication. As a working mom to two kids, she taught me that the world will demand so much from you, that being a woman is to project strength, but to have an open, vulnerable heart.
At the same time, she was always true to herself and lived her life to the fullest. She traveled the world, ate all her favorite foods, always laughing along the way. She taught me how to be tough but also how to live. She showed me that being a strong woman in this world also meant knowing when to stop, ask for help and enjoy your loved ones.

As a new mom to my own daughter, I find myself echoing so much of that same whole-hearted, full-bodied love, and it sustains me through everything. I lost her last year 6 months after becoming a mom myself, but she lives on in every part of my life, guiding me and lifting me as she always has.
