What makes you feel empowered?

I feel empowered when I get everything done and done right! Fashion and the way I look also makes me feel more confident. For me, it's about having a highly personal aesthetic—that could be about prints, color, proportion or having the confidence to pair unusual pieces together.

What are some key life lessons you’ve learned as a female entrepreneur?

Being a female entrepreneur comes with unique challenges, like accessing funding and defying social expectations. However, if you stand up for your thoughts and opinions, refuse to let people define who you are, and most importantly stop looking for acceptance from others, you will succeed.

What’s a change you’d like to see in the world?

When it comes to fighting for women’s equality, I believe the change has to come from us women. We are not rebels without a cause—the cause is the patriarchy wanting to control us, exclude us, silence us. Patriarchy trains us to look at women through the wants of men, so that we lose sight of what women want or the reality of what’s going on.

What lessons would you want to pass on to your son on how he can support women?

I want him to be a good listener, and of course I talk to him about healthy boundaries and how people should stop using gender as an excuse for behavior. Moreover, I want him to be a good dancer. We girls like boys that can dance all night at a party!

How will you #StandWithHer?

I want to inspire and advocate for women, and to lead with a sense of gentleness and an extra layer of love. We need to be kind to our women peers and support each other, starting with the way we talk to each other, not being judgmental, to be a woman for women. I will continue to use my platform to share information that will help spread awareness of the problems that women encounter, and support organizations that will help empower and uplift women.
