Today, designers are making the case for unapologetically sexy styles that celebrate the female figure and encourage the wearer to embrace their sensuality.
Leading the charge is none other than New York-based designer LaQuan Smith, who has released an exclusive collection for Olivela. In 2021, his was the first label to stage a fashion show inside the iconic Empire State Building, and downtown it-girl Julia Fox made her catwalk debut in his autumn/winter 2022 show. His high-octane designs have drawn legions of fans from around the world, with the likes of Rihanna, Kendall Jenner and Beyoncé sporting his glamorous take on clubwear.
To celebrate the launch of LaQuan Smith’s exclusive collection of sustainable pieces for Olivela, we caught up with the designer to talk details.
What is your favorite piece from the exclusive collection with Olivela?
I love all the PVC—it's a moment. It can make any woman the center of attention.
Why is sustainability important to you?
Sustainability improves and protects the quality of our lives. The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world. As a designer, it's important for my brand to limit our impact on harming our environment.
Why did you want to partner with Olivela?
Olivela was an ideal partner for us since we will be able to use deadstock materials and prevent them from going to waste through our collaboration. I am all about giving back. I hope our collection can help raise awareness of the urgency of sustainability and the charity partners Olivela works with.
