What first inspired you to pursue a master’s degree in public health?
I initially took a step back from modeling to go to NYU in my mid-twenties, and I never went back full time after that. I have always allowed my interests and experiences to guide me. Motherhood is what eventually led me to study public health in grad school and the experience of becoming a mother is what continues to drive me today.
Why did you establish Every Mother Counts?
Approximately 300,000 women and girls die each year from pregnancy and childbirth related complications around the world. Most of these deaths are preventable with improved access to quality and respectful maternity care. We know how to save these lives, but political will and resources are lacking to address systemic challenges such as racism.

Why did you establish Every Mother Counts?
Approximately 300,000 women and girls die each year from pregnancy and childbirth related complications around the world. We know how to save these lives, but political will and resources are lacking to address systemic challenges such as racism.
Black women in America are 2-3 times more likely to die from pregnancy or childbirth related complications as white women. We can address many of these challenges with increased awareness, education and strong comprehensive policies.
How is Every Mother Counts addressing the issues?
We are raising awareness about both the challenges and solutions that impact pregnancy and birth outcomes for women and families, and we are investing in community-based solutions. Lastly, we are working in partnership with policymakers and advocates to create pathways for improved experiences and better outcomes for mothers.

What self-care routines do you follow as you juggle your various responsibilities?
Following a skincare routine is important for self-care as it gives you a moment to do something nice for yourself and helps to build your confidence and empower you. I also practice yoga and spend as much time as I can in nature to recharge.
How has your skincare routine evolved over the years?
I recognize the importance of using effective, potent and results-driven skincare, which is why I love Noble Panacea. My skin has changed through the years, and at this phase of my life I want innovative products that deliver results and help combat my skincare concerns.
