New York-based Alina Mehrle was busy running her interiors firm when, at the age of 30, she was confronted with a breast cancer diagnosis. As it turned out, the experience would help her find a new calling: skincare innovator. Today, her brand offers a curated line of skincare products that can soothe and restore even the most sensitized skin.
Tell us about the personal experience that inspired the launch of this brand.
My skincare story began with a breast cancer diagnosis four years ago. The treatment caused extreme damage to my skin. On my journey to heal, rejuvenate and restore it, my oncologist introduced me to cryotherapy, which completely improved my skin. This experience inspired me to found AMEŌN and to create our signature product, Frozen Essence.
How did you set about formulating your products?
We perfected our five products over two years of product development led by an amazing team of scientists. Our three step ritual is built around our signature Frozen Essence, which focuses on skin icing. This practice has been around for centuries, but we modernized and applied scientific practices to make it even more effective. Our unique formulas are activated by freezing, and with regular use, the effect is dramatic and cumulative.
How exactly do your ice cubes work?
The skin icing massage with our Frozen Essence causes blood vessels to constrict and then dilate, pulsing our carefully balanced ingredients deeper into the skin, where they act quickly to hydrate, firm and reduce redness and imperfections. It also helps serums and moisturizers work better, which means it enhances nearly every traditional skincare routine.
How do AMEÓN products strike a balance between natural and biotech ingrediants?
As a brand, we represent the balance between two worlds: the world of nature, spirituality and art, and the world of modern science and medicine. On a personal level, I'm a spiritual and creative person who, as a cancer survivor, is deeply grateful for the achievements of modern medicine. It saved my life and gave me a second chance to create something magical.
As an example, the biotech ingredients in our 5-Peptide Composition (found in Holy Cream and Aurora Glow Serum) work synergistically to restore and maintain the skin's youthful appearance. Meanwhile, the naturally derived Alteromonas Ferment extract, also known as Abyssine, is the key ingredient in Glow Manifesto Ice Cubes. The active compound shields against harsh sun rays, protects the skin against UV damage and reduces irritations.
What have you learned through this journey of building a business while fighting breast cancer?
We are so much braver than we think. We were created with powerful spirits but fragile bodies. Never stop believing in yourself—you can do anything you dream of. I also try to remind people to stay positive during difficult times. Don’t let worries of tomorrow steal happiness of today.
