What inspired the founding of E.L.V. DENIM?
E.L.V. DENIM was born from the sole purpose of celebrating material that already exists in garments. We are the only denim brand in the world never to cut from a roll of fabric or use virgin fibers and I am very proud of that. Our pieces are manufactured one at a time, the atelier addressing the garment as if approaching it for the first time, by hand cutting and reconstructing with care. We champion slow manufacturing as that is the only way we can guarantee quality.

How would you describe the brand’s aesthetic?
We are known for our contrast colorways that are created with the seams. This is a functional design as it allows each person to make easy adjustments to create the perfect fit; denim is notoriously hard to tailor so this truly sets us apart. As a stylist, I know what pieces everyone needs in their wardrobe, so I wanted to create a classic capsule for the conscious consumer. We continue to add new wardrobe essentials, including the classic blazer in the upcoming collection.

What role do you see your brand playing in shaping a more sustainable future?
I want to be a brand that has changed the status quo, to share what I have learned, and to be part of the change. E.L.V. DENIM’s innovation in our processes mean that we don’t deplete resources as we never use virgin fibers, only use existing material. We produce locally within a 5-mile radius of our studio, so our carbon footprint is low, and we design our jeans to last a lifetime.

What advice would you give to aspiring female entrepreneurs?
I don’t believe in the word ‘no’. I believe in listening to who is saying that word, and why they are saying it… once you have the answers to those questions it allows you to be insightful and inform your decision on how to circumnavigate that ‘no’ into an opportunity.

As a female entrepreneur, can you share a woman who inspires you?
My mother, although she is no longer with us, is a constant source of inspiration. She never took no for an answer and impressed any naysayers into her way of thinking. We haven’t ever met, but I admire Emma Grede’s tenacity, personality, and sheer determination.
