We sat down with Vintner’s Daughter Founder and innovator, April Gargiulo, to get the low-down on this sustainable and best-in-class beauty brand.

Since day one, April Gargiulo set out to build a true, luxury skincare company that makes products from the finest ingredients in the world, using time-honored techniques in order to bring about profound and lasting balance and health in the skin. With a background in the winemaking world, she wanted to build a skincare company on the same philosophical foundations of quality and craftsmanship. With Vintner’s Daughter, she achieved that and more.

Describe your daily AM & PM skincare routine?

It’s super simple and almost the same AM to PM. I cleanse with something creamy and gentle, then apply Active Treatment Essence followed by Active Botanical Serum using our Push/Press Method from the neck up, including around my eyes. For daytime I finish with sunscreen and at night I do a 1-minute face massage. With those two simple steps (essence then serum), I know I am giving my skin everything it needs to be its very best—hydration, moisture, antioxidants, hyaluronic, Vitamin C, probiotics, stem cells, micro exfoliation, nutrition, phytoceramides and more. It’s freeing not to be beholden to an elaborate multi-step routine; the results are better and I'm creating less waste. I also like to do microcurrent, infrared sauna and red light a few times each week.

What does clean beauty mean to you & how does Vintner's Daughter embody that?

Clean beauty is so much greater than non-toxic ingredients. With so many beauty products to choose from these days, consumers should feel empowered to consider the overall ethos of every brand and hold them accountable to doing better for the world and environment. At Vintner’s Daughter, we exist to not only impact your skin in the most beneficial ways, but to have a positive impact on the world. Social and environmental responsibility are infused into every aspect of our business, from ethical sourcing and recyclable and biodegradable packaging to carbon credits, voluntary green certifications and donating 2% of revenue to charities benefiting women, children and the environment. It is more costly and time consuming, but we believe it is the only way to ensure a beautiful future for our planet.

Where should someone start when transitioning to clean beauty?

As you use up your old products, switch them for natural, but remember that purchasing fewer and better products will not only serve your skin better, but also our planet.

Can you share the process of formulating your products?

We believe that to make the very best of anything, it takes time. This is the philosophical foundation upon which we are built, and it’s what drives the unprecedented performance of our formulations. We joyfully say that we move at the Speed of Quality. Our formulation process is a study in the methodical attention to detail and adherence to the highest levels of quality. Uniquely, we begin with whole plants sourced from conscious growers around the world. They are amongst the world’s most nutrient-dense botanicals and have been revered since ancient times for their transformative, healing properties. Next, we create our signature Phyto Radiance Infusion™; a three-week long, temperature controlled process that gently extracts the full spectrum of our whole plants’ nutrition. Not only does the process capture complete skin nutrition, but it also protects all of nature’s powerful synergies. Your skin immediately recognizes our plant actives and puts them to work to accelerate its own powers of regeneration, repair, brightening and firming. And just as your body never grows tired of optimal nutrition, neither will your skin. The results compound over time and skin becomes healthier, more resilient and stronger with every use.

What makes your brand unique?

At the heart of every formulation is our proprietary Phyto Radiance Infusion. Made over the course of three weeks from the world’s most nutrient-dense whole botanicals, it is the engine of our advanced technologies and award-winning performance. No other skincare is made like this and as a result, our formulas can communicate with the skin at a deeper, more foundational, level to bring about profound balance and radiance.

How should someone incorporate Vintner’s Daughter into their routine?

My mission has always been to have a hugely positive impact on skin in order to inspire joy, confidence and gratitude. I don't believe you need a 15-step routine. Two products that are truly worth every cent because of the results they deliver and the quality they adhere to are better for your skin (and the world) than a drawer full of less expensive, ineffective products filled with synthetics and toxins. More is not better. The world is waking up to the true costs of our consumption and it is something we have thought about since day one. It is why we produce fewer, but more finely made products because there is nothing more sustainable than less.

What’s your vision for the future of Vintner’s Daughter?

For a product to wear a Vintner’s Daughter label it must be game-changing, category-defining and deliver transformational, multi-beneficial results. These are very high standards that take years to achieve. Of course creating product after product increases your sales, but we are not driven by revenue, we are driven by integrity and skin health. This is why we focus on far fewer (and far better) products that our customers marry, for life, because our nutritional skincare will always feed their skin at a foundational level no matter the skin concern, age, gender or tone. This is not to say we will never release a new product. I hope we will, and when we do, our customers will know that it offers something that no other product does.
