Hard to believe, but Elle Macpherson (you know, super fit, long legged, running-in-the-surf-in-a-swimsuit Elle Macpherson) didn't always feel like the picture of health. “Before I met Dr. Simone Laubscher, PhD., I thought my diet was supporting me. In reality, it was very poor in nutrients. I was sugar addicted, sleep deprived, dehydrated, and stressed,” she recalls. To treat her, Laubscher created a personal daily supplement formula made up of plant-based nutrients, and the results, she says, were transformative. “My body felt lighter, brighter, cleaner. I woke up feeling more rested, my skin improved dramatically. My hair and nails began to grow quickly, and I generally felt inspired, strong and upbeat.” That miracle concoction become the basis of her company's signature product, The Super Elixir, which contains 43 nutrients, including anti-inflammatory and immune boosting tumeric, liver supporting dandelion, horsetail extract for hair, skin and nails, and pro and prebiotics for supporting the digestive system.

How do you start your day?

I am up at sunrise and practice deep breathing exercises and mediation to help balance and oxygenate the body. At 6am, I wake up my son Cy, and while he’s getting ready for school, I prepare his breakfast, and make myself hot water and lemon followed by The Super Elixir Greens. Once Cy is off to school, I exercise, either in my home gym or outside in the fresh morning air. Then I have breakfast—fruit, raw oatmeal or chia seed pudding—before jumping into the shower and getting ready for the day. I am obsessed with dry brushing and exfoliating, so I use WelleCo’s Japanese Green Tea Salt Scrub. If I’m feeling courageous, I’ll take hot and cold showers to encourage circulation, before slathering my body with a thick, hydrating, natural moisturizer.

You’ve talked about the importance of sleep to overall wellness, how do you ensure you get a good night’s rest?

During deep sleep, the skin's metabolic rate speeds up to help with repair. Whether it’s external damage from ultraviolet rays or internal toxic overload from too many late nights, we really do need our beauty sleep. I brew a pot of WelleCo Sleep Welle Calming Tea and spritz my pillows with Sleep Welle Calming Mist. The lavender scent adds to the sense of calm I try to create before bed. If I still have trouble calming my mind, I lie on my back, place my feet up the wall, and stretch my arms (like the yoga pose viparita karani). It has an immediate meditative effect on me. All I need is five minutes and I’m calm and ready for sleep.

What do you snack on during the work day?

I usually take 32 oz of homemade green vegetable juice including kale, cucumber, turmeric, garlic, lemon, ginger, live sprouts, and romaine lettuce. I rotate the base of the juice every day between cucumber, celery, spinach and squash so I get a variety of nutrients. Plus there is less chance of my body forming allergies that way. For an afternoon snack, I make a Nourishing Protein Peruvian Chocolate smoothie with almond milk and avocado for creaminess. It energizes me and keeps me going until dinner.

Let’s talk style.

I love classic French girl chic, and I'm inspired by Jane Birkin’s simplicity. I often find myself in flared jeans and a t-shirt with a pair of Hermès or Celine slides and my hair loose. To run errands, I wear sporty clothes, as I often go straight for a walk, swim or water ski afterwards. P.E Nation, an Aussie brand, makes the best athleisure wear. My work clothes vary according to what I’ve got going on. My usual uniform for business meetings is classic pants and t-shirts. I love a beautiful, yet practical, handbag, like my new Burberry belt bag. Coach has great everyday bags, and I have a wonderful Loro Piana tote I take everywhere. Red carpet is usually a long dress and fabulous heels or flats. I like to feel as free and comfortable at formal occasions as I do every day, so I keep my styling simple. For evenings, I like something more rock n roll by Off White, Balmain, Saint Laurent or Isabel Marant.

What’s your trick for creating beachy waves?

I wash my hair and spritz it with a good sea salt or texturing spray, like Sam McKnight Cool Girl Barely There Texture Mist. I apply it through the crown, mid-lengths and ends, or throw my hair upside down and spritz liberally into the roots. Then I put it up into a knot on top of my head to dry. When I take it down, I’m left with messy, natural, beachy waves.

What is the number one lesson you hope to teach your children?

I encourage the boys to be independent, responsible, and willing to learn through experience, as my mother taught me. My mother supported me traveling, exploring and moving to the US when I was 17. She wanted me to have an adventure. I wanted to go to university and study law in Sydney, but she said, “You have your life ahead of you, and you have this opportunity. Go and explore.” She suggested I rely on my innate courage and natural independence, and I hope I’ve done the same with the boys.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

One thing you probably don’t know about me is that my kids are half French, so we speak a lot of French around the house—which is a bit bizarre for Australians.
