Joury: In Her Own Words

Tell us a bit about your schooling to this point...

In Syria, I had studied up to the first semester of the fourth grade and then we had to come to Jordan. Here, I was able to go back for just a bit. I had to stop because the school was far away and because my mother’s back got injured. After that, I had to take care of my brothers and sisters.

How do you spend your days?

I help my mom. She had an operation on her back, and she can’t do it all herself. There is also a hair salon right under our house, and the lady there will sometimes call me to help her. When I am at the hair salon, I make coffee and tea and she teaches me how to do other tasks sometimes.

How would you spend your ideal day?

I want to go to school and finish my education because I want to become a pharmacist. I want to get a degree and then go to university in America. I studied at a center and the teachers were from the United States. The way they spoke about their country made me love it, and so I want to go there.

“I know that I’m going to make it one day—that I’m going to study, finish everything and achieve my dream.”

Joury Reading with Founder & CEO

Why do you dream of becoming a pharmacist?

I decided I want to become a pharmacist because I love the English language. I’m very good at it, and in the pharmacy, everything is in English. I also want to be a pharmacist so that I can help. I know that I’m going to make it one day—that I’m going to study, finish everything and achieve my dream.

“When I finish my education I will be able to help my family.”
